Dr. Raad Al Mehdi

Dr. Raad Al Mehdi. is Senior Consultant, General Surgeon.

Dr. Raad is an expert in Minimal Access Surgery (General, Upper GI, and Bariatric).

He Graduated (Honours) from Baghdad University with early training in major Medical centers in Iraq. He has wide international experience in Surgery – Iraq, Southeast Asia (Malaysia and Singapore), Australia, and Oman. He holds a Master’s in Clinical Immunology as well as being a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Australasia, and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. He has advanced training in Laparoscopy in Australia with two Fellowships (Upper GI, Bariatric, and Hepatobiliary).

Dr. Raad was Head of the Department – of General Surgery at the Royal Hospital in Muscat, followed by establishing and being head of the Upper GI and Bariatric unit for nine years.

Previously, he was the Assistant Program Director for the Omani Surgical Specialities Board and an Associate Professor at the James Cook University in Queensland in Australia.

He is a Founding member and previous Chair of the Omani Obesity and Metabolic surgery Interest group and a founding member of the Gulf Obesity Surgical Society.

He has lectured and published widely as well as being currently an Editorial member of international journals (Hernia, AJS, AJSES, Obesity Surg). He is also an active member of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and of regional and international surgical societies ( e.g EAES, IGCA, IFSO, ANZGOSA, ELSA, ICS)
