Dr. Amal Al Hahsmi, Senior Consultant Neurologist & Head, Neuroscience Center – Oman International Hospital, Muscat (2023–Present)
Dr. Amal Al Hahsmi is a pioneering neurologist and the Sultanate’s first female adult neurologist. A Canadian Board-Certified Neurologist, she has been instrumental in advancing neurology and stroke care in Oman and the region, establishing new standards of excellence.
She has demonstrated exceptional leadership over the past 14 years by founding stroke programs, developing multiple stroke units, and implementing national stroke protocols and specialized nursing training programs. These initiatives have significantly improved stroke care quality and patient outcomes nationwide.
As Founder and President of the Oman Stroke Society, Dr. Al Hahsmi has driven programs in public awareness, professional education, and regional collaboration. She has also contributed to stroke center accreditation across the MENA region, participating in the certification of 24 stroke units in Egypt and Turkey.
Her commitment to professional growth, education, and research is reflected in her supervision of medical trainees, international conference participation, and numerous publications in neurology. She continues to inspire advancements in stroke care through creativity, leadership, and collaboration.

- Chairperson, National Stroke Committee – Ministry of Health (2013–2023)
- Commissioner, Oman Human Rights Commission (2018–2020)
